Serendipity is a tasty surprise

Tucked away in a strip shopping center off Washington Road in Evans, Serendipity is a coffeehouse that offers more than just a cup of joe.

From cappuccino to caffe latte, Serendipity serves a variety of Starbucks coffees. It also offers Boar's Head meat sandwiches, ice cream, muffins, cookies, sodas and smoothies.

Customers can design their own smoothie or coffee creation by adding chocolate, caramel, vanilla, whipped cream or any flavor shot for an additional 50 cents.

For a few dollars, I bought a small cappuccino and a blueberry muffin with plenty of butter on a recent morning.

With light green and cream painted walls, the coffeehouse offers a relaxing setting for friends and parents and a comfortable place for children.

The menu is painted on the wall behind the counter in a smooth, white sans serif script. Above that, the definition of the word serendipity - a fortunate accident - is painted in the same, but larger script.

Serendipity also has an upstairs lounge with a fireplace, bench-style seating with pillows and a couple of tables set for chess or checkers play.

Whether you're an early bird or a night owl, Serendipity is the place to be. Hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m. to midnight Friday, 8 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.
