Tilly's Peas and Butter Beans restaurant on Wrightsboro Road provides country cooking with simple elegant decor. The recently opened restaurant packs in customers every day. (Special)

Tilly's provides casual charm, simple elegance

My grandmother always told me that down-home, country cooking is good for the soul. That type of cooking is easy to find in the South. And if you're looking for a little soul food, drive over to the recently opened Tilly's Peas and Butter Beans on Wrightsboro Road; you'll get what you're looking for.

A co-worker and I visited the restaurant for lunch recently and found the place packed. Besides the casual, elegant decor, Tilly's stands out because of the great attitudes of its staffers.

For $6, I ate Catherine's smothered chicken with Gigi's macaroni and cheese, Lincoln County collards and a roll. You can't beat the price. Each entree comes with two sides and your choice of crackling bread, corn muffins or rolls. Also, you get a complimentary serving of Tilly's peas and beans with your meal.

My co-worker opted for the shrimp and grits, a Southern favorite. I tasted the Tilly's appetizer, flavored with andouille, and it was delicious.

Tilly's also serves pork chops, fried turkey, pot roast, grilled salmon, T-bone steak and shrimp. The seasoned veggies include cabbage, white rice with gravy, fried corn, mashed potatoes, sweet peas and more. The dessert list includes all the Southern favorites, including pound cake, cheesecake, peach cobbler and sweet potato pie. Tilly's also offers soups, sandwiches and salads.

With great food, friendly faces and the right price, Tilly's is the perfect restaurant package. Next time you're on Wrightsboro Road, make sure you stop and eat there because everyone can use a little soulful cuisine.
